Mountain Bike Trails
Owloon sits at the heart of a 200-kilometre network of mountain bike trails across the slopes of Paarl Mountain. With the unique ride-in-ride-out experience from the Owloon trailhead, the selection of trails has something to suit all abilities and fitness levels. A selection of new-model Scott mountain bikes, gravel bikes and e-bikes is available for rental through our preferred provider, Paarl Trails. Guided riding experiences can be arranged on request, and advance booking is recommended.
Unique Swimming Dam
A highlight of any stay at Owloon is the remarkable spring-fed swimming dam set close to the Manor House, offering a unique opportunity to cool off, play with the kids, or swim laps in the crystal-clear waters that flow from deep within the surrounding granite hills. A spacious wooden jetty fitted with a swim-ladder allows for easy access to the water.

Surrounded by trellised vineyards and citrus orchards, Owloon’s wide lawns provide ample space for younger travellers to play in perfect privacy. A selection of games is available on request.

South Africa may fall into the ‘New World’ of wine, but its viticultural history stretches back more than 350 years, and Paarl is home to some of the most respected estates in the Western Cape Winelands. Ridgeback Winery, renowned for its elegant Shiraz and award-winning Bordeaux-style red blend, is located at the entrance to the Owloon estate and offers a choice of wine flights at the charming cellar-door tasting room.
Many of the region’s most celebrated cellars are located just a short drive from Owloon, and guided Winelands tours can be arranged on request.
Enjoy The Art & Museums
Inspired by the artwork on the walls of Owloon? The Cape Winelands is a hotbed of creativity and plays host to many of South Africa’s most impressive art galleries and private collections. Start with Everard Read in Franschhoek, and the Rupert Museum in Stellenbosch.
Held on the first Saturday of each month, the Windmeul Winery Farmer’s Market offers a colourful taste of local produce and is located just a short drive from Owloon. If you’re self-catering, it’s the perfect place to stock the pantry.
Tee Off On World Class Courses
Tee up at one of the region’s world-famous golf courses. The closest course to Owloon is Paarl Golf Club on Boschenmeer Estate, which offers a 27-hole parkland-style layout on the banks of the Berg River. A little further afield is the impressive Pearl Valley, with an 18-hole championship course laid out by Jack Nicklaus.
Unique Adventures
Wine Valley Horse Trails offers horseback trails that explore the slopes of Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve and rides cater to a range of experience and ability. A great outing for kids!
